The New York University women's tennis team produced a resounding victory over the University of Rochester at home in the Bronx, NY on Saturday, April 1.
The Violets are now 7-0 this spring after posting the nine-match shutout victory on Senior Day.
The women started the celebratory day with strong wins and fierce competition. The #2 doubles team of Molly Heber and Karina Jensrud finished first in a quick 8-1 bout, while the #1 pairing of Ida Krause/Dakota Fordham followed shortly after with an 8-4 victory. Finally, Jimena Menendez and Anastasiia Balyk finished the doubles play with another 8-1 win.
In singles play, the Violets continued to showcase their work ethic as they let up an average of just two games per set. Seniors Krause, Jensrud, and Balyk saw wins at first, second, and sixth singles respectively. Krause, in the tightest match of the day, won the second-set tiebreaker to take the match 6-4, 7-6 (3).
"Being here for only one year, as a masters student, the team has really taken me in as one of them," commented Krause. "We go to practice from 9-11pm every day and that really shows our love for the sport and for each other. It's exceptional, it brings us together, and I think you see that passion when we play."
The Violets will return to court on Sunday, April 2, when they host Brandeis University, another UAA opponent, at 1:00pm in the Bronx.
