The New York University men's tennis team triumphed 7-2 over the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Saturday, March 4, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY.
The Violets started off strong in the doubles play. The teams of
Alex Yang/
Zachary Freier (#1 doubles) and
Boren Zheng/
Alex Lee (#2 doubles) each won 8-2. At #3 doubles, NYU's
Andy Watterson and
Joseph He fell 8-6 to RIT's Brian Bork and Verosh Jayanetti.
NYU swept singles play with the exception of #2 singles; Freier was edged out in a nail-biter 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 by RIT's Christian Berko.
"Overall, we played well today," Head Coach
Horace Choy commented. "We came out hot with an early lead in doubles and finished strong in singles. We have some more work to do in practice, but I'm happy that the team was able to win convincingly."
The Violets will be back in action on Sunday, March 5, where they will host New Jersey City University in the Bronx at 12:00pm.
