The New York University men's tennis team won 9-0 against New Jersey City University at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY, on Sunday, March 5. The Violets now sport a 3-2 this spring.
The day's competition started with a close match at #1 doubles as
Alex Yang and
Zachary Freier won in a nail-biter 8-7 (2). At #2 doubles
Boren Zheng and
Alex Lee triumphed 8-4 while #3 doubles
Andy Watterson and
Joseph He finished the doubles round with a resounding 8-1 win.
The men continued the strong play into the singles, winning all six matches. NJCU's Nico Teynie, however, gave #1 singles Yang a run for his money. Yang eventually took the match for NYU in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, (6).
"I am proud of the guys for coming together for two tough wins against quality teams this weekend," Assistant Coach
Chanmeet Singh Narang commented. "More than the result, I'm proud of the way our guys competed and supported each other. It takes a team effort to make a good run in the postseason. We're ready to get back to work and continue our momentum into next weekend."
The Violets will return to the court on Saturday, March 11, when they host Hobart College at 12:00pm and Endicott College at 6:30pm.
