Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

#13 Men's Volleyball Picks Up Fifth Straight Win

Violets beat Ramapo in four

Career highs of 20 kills and 24 points from Lucas Osiecki led New York University's 13th-ranked men's volleyball team to a four-set victory at Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon in Mahwah, NJ.

It was NYU's fifth consecutive victory, and third straight four-setter, as the Violets improved to 5-1 on the season.

"Another win for the young men," said head coach José Piña. "We keep improving but still need a bit more focus to finish matches properly. Osiecki had a really strong match offensively and was assisted by Guatham and Luke also with double-digit kills. Zach was outstading on defense with 22 digs and on serve receive with no errors and pretty much all perfect passes."

Gautham Dasari added 17 kills, one off his career high, while Luke Boyer finished with a career-high 13 kills of his own.

Ryan Li continues to set new standards in assists, dishing out a career-high 50 in the win. Zach Knudsen got in on the career high party as well, posting a career-best 22 digs.

NYU's offense was efficient throughout the match, hitting .272 overall, highlighted by a .310 attack percentage in the first set for 15 kills which led to a 25-19 game one win.

The Violets led by just three, 21-18, late in the second but closed the frame with four unanswered points for a 25-18 victory that put them ahead 2-0 in games.

NYU held another slim lead, 15-14, in the third and this time it was the Roadrunners who scored four straight to take control as they never trailed from there and won the third 25-23.

The fourth set was neck-and-neck throughout, but Ramapo found itself leading 24-22 late and looked poised to force a fifth. However, the Violets scored four consecutive points for the comeback win, capped off by a Boyer kill, to end the match.

"We still need to be cleaner in games and cut down on our hitting errors," Piña added. "But it was another hard-fought win and continues our current winning streak."

Osiecki added seven digs, three aces and two block assists to his match high in kills while Dasari contributed seven digs and six assists in addition to his offensive output.

Boyer was strong on defense as well, bringing up a career-high 13 digs for his first collegiate double-double.

NYU returns home for its next match, taking on defending CUNYAC champion Baruch College on Tuesday, February 7, at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.
