The New York University men's tennis team was defeated by Haverford College 7-2 on Friday, February 24, in Haverford, PA.
The Violets and Fords began the match with three tightly-contested doubles contests. The NYU pair of
Alex Lee and
Boren Zheng posted an 8-6 victory at #2, but Haverford's duos won at #1 and #3 by scores of 8-7 and 8-6, respectively.
Half of the six singles matches went to a tiebreaker, with the Violets winning one of those. The other three singles matches were taken by Haverford.
NYU's lone winner at singles was
Joseph He at #4. He defeated Daniel Loder 6-2, 0-6 and 10-5 in the tiebreaker.
"It was a tough match, closer than the final score might indicate," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We came out of the doubles down 1-2. I thought we had some chances at first doubles, but it didn't work out and then the singles were all close. But, Haverford was able to pull out some of those matches and that was the difference in the match."
This was NYU's second match of the 2023 spring season. The Violets defeated Yeshiva University 9-0 on Wednesday.
The Violets are right back on the court Saturday when they travel to Swarthmore, PA, to face Swarthmore College at 2:30pm
