New York University's men's soccer team recorded a 2-2 draw against New Jersey City University on Monday afternoon in Jersey City, NJ.
NYU is now 3-5-3 on the season and hasn't lost in its last three matches. This was the last non-conference outing of the campaign for the Violets, who are 1-1 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play after defeating the University of Chicago on the road this past weekend.
The Gothic Knights opened the scoring on Maximo Vargas' solo goal in the 18th minute, but
Nathan Bennett netted the equalizer for NYU in the 27th with
Arkan Tahsildaroglu setting up the chance.
It remained a 1-1 game at the break with the two sides combining for 17 shots across the opening 45 minutes. NYU goalkeeper
Chaz Bond made five saves in the first half to keep the score level.
The Violets jumped ahead eight minutes into the second half on Tahsildaroglu's third goal of the season.
Daniel Gutierrez released him on the right wing, then Tahsildaroglu cut back to the middle of the box and slotted the ball home with his left foot.
NYU's advantage lasted for 13 minutes as NJCU's Danny Tobon curled his shot in from the top left corner of the box to level the score once again. Neither side could break through for the remainder of the game as both teams picked up their fifth draws of the year.
The Gothic Knights out-shot NYU 16-10 (9-2 on target) while both of the Violets' shots on goal found the back of the net. Bond finished with seven saves for the second consecutive game.
NYU returns to UAA play on Saturday, October 14, hosting Washington University in St. Louis at 1:30 p.m. in Newark, NJ.
