The New York University's men's soccer team delivered a resounding 3-1 University Athletic Association (UAA) home victory against Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday, October 14, in Newark, NJ.
The first half proved a battle between the teams as the Violets attempted eight shots to the Bears' 10.
However, the teams went into halftime scoreless.
Finally, at 57:29, the Violets' Bryce Lexow broke through with a goal assisted by Joss Cohen and Arkan Tahsildaroglu. It was Lexow's fifth of the season.
The Violets continued their momentum with a second goal at 76:56 unassisted by Tahsildaroglu. It was his fourth goal of the season and doubled NYU's lead.
Eight minutes later at, 84:31, Terra Nagai scored his second of the season off a ball by Marcelo Freire making the score 3-0 in favor of the Violets.
WashU battled back with a goal of their own as Quentin Gomez sent a ball just out of reach of Chaz Bond at 85:38, spoiling the NYU net keeper's shutout attempt.
Both Bond and the Bears' goalkeeper Owen Ross had seven saves, with each team recording 18 shots.
The Violets return to the pitch on Friday, October 20, when they take on the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, at 7:30 pm.
