Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

#10 Women's Volleyball Splits UAA Round Robin #2

The Violets Fell to Emory in Four Sets Before Sweeping Rochester

The New York University women's volleyball team, ranked 10th in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), continued University Athletic Association competition at Round Robin #2, hosted by the University of Chicago in Chicago, IL, on Sunday, October 8.

The Violets split the weekend, falling to Emory University 3-1 (21-25, 18-25, 25-22,18-25) in a closely contested match.

NYU then returned to the court later in the afternoon and defeated the University of Rochester in straight sets 25-12, 25-9, 25-22.

Fifth-ranked Emory is undefeated on the season and gave the Violets a tough match. The Eagles got the first point of the opening set but NYU went on to gain an early four-point edge. The teams traded leads with neither team leading by more than four at any point as Emory eventually took the first set 25-21.

The Eagles carried this momentum into the second, taking the set 25-18, before NYU rallied to win the third. The Violets had two separate three-point runs in set three, only trailing twice in the frame and going on to win 25

However, Emory used an eight-point run to take control and win the fourth and final set, 25-18.

The Violets had little time to dwell on their loss, as they had to refocus for their match against Rochester and did not disappoint. They never trailed in either of the first two sets and, although Rochester got the first point in the final set, the Violets went on a four-point run to obtain the lead. NYU never trailed again in the third set which secured them the sweep.

Grace Nelson led the Violets over the two matches with 25 kills. Ella Weider had a team-high 12 against Rochester.

Ava Launsbach totaled 52 assists and Dominique Drust contributed 22 over the two matches.

Lindsey Hirano led the way along the back line all afternoon with 38 digs.

NYU returns home for the NYU October Showdown at the John A. Paulson Center this weekend. They open the action against the University of Northwestern at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 13.
