In a battle of top-10 teams,
the #10 New York University women's volleyball team fell to #4 University of Northwestern in a home match played on Friday, October 13, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The first set was tight until the Eagles went on a 6-0 scoring run. NYU battled back, but fell short 21-25.
UNW controlled the second as well, despite NYU keeping it close for the first 10 points. The Eagles responded with a 7-0 run to win 25-12 and take a 2-0 lead in games.
The Eagles got ahead early in the third set, but a late 4-0 run with kills from three different Violets, brought the score to within 20-18. But, that was as cose as the Violets would come as they dropped the final set 20-25.
Ella Weider led the Violets with eight kills and
Haley Holz added seven.
A team-high 11 assists came from
Ava Launsbach, while
Lindsey Hirano contributed 16 digs.
NYU takes the court again on Saturday, October 14, to take on Rowan University at 11 am and North Park University at 6:30 pm in the NYU October Showdown.
