Nathan Bennett netted the game's only goal as the New York University's men's soccer team defeated the University of Rochester, 1-0, on Friday night in Rochester, NY.
The Violets improved to 5-5-3 overall, 3-1 in UAA play, and have been undefeated in five straight games (4-0-1).
Bennett's goal, which was the winner for NYU in the 75th minute, was his second of the season.
Arkan Tahsildaroglu slid a ball to the foot of Bennett who sent it into the lower left of the goal to break the deadlock. It was Tahsildaroglu's fourth assist of the season.
"We played with massive heart and determination, and executed the game plan to perfection," said NYU Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "The team is really playing for each other, fighting for every ball, contesting every chance, and I'm just so proud of the way that the team performed tonight."
Tahsildaroglu led the team in shots with three, Bennett followed with two, and
Bryce Lexow,
Eric Smits, and
Terra Nagai each had one.
Rochester was the aggressor throughout the contest, going 13-2 on corners and out-shooting the Violets 20-8, though NYU led in shots on goal (5-4 on target).
"We were under a lot of pressure, but we managed to create a good chance," Wyant added. "We're playing some very good soccer right now."
Chaz Bond saved all four of Rochester's shots in the game, including one in the 89th minute to preserve the clean sheet for the Violets.
The Violets return to action on Sunday, October 22, taking on UAA opponent Emory University in Atlanta, GA, at 1:30 pm
