Playing its second straight road game to open the 2022 season, New York University's men's soccer team recorded a scoreless draw with the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, on Saturday.
The Violets fired off the first two shots of the game, coming five seconds apart in the ninth minute.
Joe Leslie had his attempt blocked while
Arkan Tahsildaroglu had a shot on goal that was saved by the Mariners' keeper.
Rookie
Russell Koshkin got off a shot on goal late in the first half which was also saved. NYU didn't allow the hosts a shot on net during the first 45 minutes.
NYU's attack had its share of chances in the second half, outshooting USMMA 9-4, but could not find the back of the net. The last, best opportunity for the Violets came in the 85th minute when Tahsildaroglu lined up a corner kick, but
Bryce Lexow's header attempt was saved.
For the game, NYU led 12-8 in shots and 5-4 in corners.
Chaz Bond played the full 90 minutes in net and saved the lone shot he saw on goal.
The Violets are now 1-0-1 on the young season after defeating Farmingdale State College, 3-0, on September 1.
Next up is another road fixture, taking on Hunter College on Randall's Island in New York City on Wednesday, September 7. Kick off is set for 6:00 pm.
