Dominique Bevacqua's first goal of the season gave New York University's women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Drew University at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, on Saturday afternoon.
The Violets remain undefeated on the season with the win, breaking a streak of three consecutive draws. Drew dropped to 5-2 with the loss.
NYU controlled possession throughout this one, outshooting the Rangers 11-2 during the first half. Despite the lopsided shot margin, the match was scoreless at intermission.
That changed five minutes into the second, however, when Bevaqcua punched in a rebound after
Caitlin Fong's shot was saved. Bevacqua, who was a First Team All-UAA selection in 2021, became the 10th Violet to find the back of the net this season.
NYU kept Drew's keeper, Anthi Panayides, busy for the rest of the contest as she recorded six saves in the second half alone. The lone tally held up though, with the Violets limiting Drew to just two shot attempts across the final 45 minutes.
Tyler Hawkins and
Riley Felsher split the day in net for NYU, both recording a save in the victory.
Tate Jordan totaled a match-high five shots while
Kelli Keady and Bevacqua had four apiece.
The Violets led 11-2 in corner kicks and 29-4 in total shots for the match.
Next up for NYU is a return to the road on Wednesday, September 21, taking on William Paterson University at 7:00 pm in Wayne, NJ.
