A day after the Violets' impressive 13-12 victory in Waltham, New York University's baseball team dropped today's game 6-5 against Brandeis University in game two of the teams' four-game University Athletic Association (UAA) set.
The Violets offense picked up where it left off, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Nick Argenziano put the Violets on the board with an RBI single. After
Jacob Singer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded,
Zane Baker reached on an error to score
Alex VanLandingham, giving NYU an early 3-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the first the Judges got on the board quickly with one run, but NYU responded again in the top of the second inning when
Connor Roggero smashed a solo home run, his first of the season.
After the hot start, however, the Violets' offense went cold until the eighth inning, while Brandeis strung together three runs to tie things up at four. In the top of the eighth Roggero continued his impressive day at the plate, hitting a go ahead RBI single to give NYU a 5-4 lead. But, in the home half of the eighth, Brandeis answered right back when Brian King hit a homer to knot it up at five.
In the bottom of the ninth, with the bases loaded, Dan Frey hit an RBI single to walk it off for the Judges.
After a heartbreaking defeat today, NYU will look to bounce back tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 11 am in Waltham.
