Continuing play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, New York University's sixth-seeded women's tennis team fell 5-1 to seventh-seeded Brandeis University in the consolation semifinals at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

To begin doubles play, Phoebe Su and Lynn Robinson lost 8-1 to Cecilia Denis and Nikita Salkar. The Violets evened the match after second doubles as Carol Plakk and Jimena Menendez defeated Ana Hatfield and Jiayi Zhang, 8-4. NYU's first doubles flight fell 8-4, however, giving Brandeis a slight edge entering singles.

Robinson dropped her fifth singles match (6-1, 6-0) and Menendez lost at the third flight (6-0, 6-2), putting the Judges on the verge of victory. Then, Zhang topped Ana Leonard, 6-2, 6-2, at sixth singles for the decisive victory. 

Plakk, who dropped the first set at No. 1 singles, was leading 2-1 in the second when play concluded. Su also lost the first set of her fourth singles draw, but held a 5-1 edge in the second at the end of the match.

NYU previously beat Brandeis 5-4 on the road in the team's final regular season match of the year.

The Violets will wrap up the UAA Championship in the seventh-place match against the University of Rochester at 8:30 am tomorrow.
