Emory Takes Two from Baseball

Violets look to even the series tomorrow

New York University's baseball team fell twice to Emory University on Saturday afternoon as part of the teams' University Athletic Association (UAA) set this weekend. The Eagles' offense found their stride, scoring 33 runs on the day to take a 2-1 lead in the series after NYU's comeback win on Friday.

How It Happened

Game One: Emory 9, NYU 2
  • Emory plated a run in the top of the first, but NYU scored twice in the bottom half on RBI singles from Nick Argenziano and Connor Roggero to take a 2-1 lead.
  • The Eagles' Tyler McLoughlin took over from there, tying the game with an RBI single in the fourth and giving Emory the lead for good with a two-run shot in the sixth.
  • Emory brought another run home in the seventh and scored four more times in the top of the ninth to pad the lead and even the series.
Game Two: Emory 24, NYU 8
  • NYU seemed to bounce back in game two as Grant Berman launched a solo homer over the left field wall in the first inning. The Violets scored three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead early on.
  • McLoughlin stayed hot, hitting another home run in the third for Emory's first run.
  • Ryan Carr notched an RBI double in the fourth to make it 5-1 while McLoughlin drove in another run in the fifth to bring Emory within 5-2.
  • However, the visitors erupted for 14 runs in the sixth inning alone to secure a lopsided victory.
  • Carr, Berman and Argenziano drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth but it was too little, too late as the Eagles scored eight more in the seventh to leave no doubt.
For the Violets
  • Roggero went 3-for-4 in game one with an RBI and a pair of steals.
  • Berman finished 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and a homer in the nightcap.
  • Jacob Singer (2-for-2) ripped two doubles and scored twice in game two.
  • Richard Beggy also had a pair of hits (2-for-3) and scored twice in game two.
  • Carr drove in two runs on two sacrifice flies in the nightcap.
Next Up

NYU and Emory are scheduled to conclude the series with a single, nine-inning game tomorrow at 11 am from Maimonides Park.
