WashU Shuts Out Softball to Split Series

Violets fall 6-0 on Sunday

New York University's softball team concluded its University Athletic Association (UAA) series against Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday afternoon at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY. The Violets (9-16, 3-7 UAA) fell 6-0 to WashU (20-8, 8-4 UAA) as the teams split the series 2-2 throughout the weekend.

The Bears scored in each of the first four innings with a one-out triple down the right field line setting up an RBI single in the first for a 1-0 lead. WashU tacked on another lone run in the second before Maggie Baumstark's two-run double in the third gave the visitors a 4-0 edge halfway through the contest.

Single runs from WashU in the fourth and sixth provided the final scoring in this one as NYU's offense couldn't capitalize on its opportunities throughout the game.

The Violets stranded runners in scoring position in all but two innings as WashU starter Madison Denton worked out of jams all game long en route to her complete-game shutout.

Erin Scott and Hannah Lee both went 2-for-3 at the plate for NYU while Madi Hand and Bella Dunning produced the team's other two hits.

Marina Egbert pitched 4.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.

Next up for NYU is a road UAA series at Emory University in Atlanta this weekend. The first game is set for Friday, April 15, at 3:00 pm.
