The New York University Softball Team dropped its home University Athletic Association (UAA) opener to Carnegie Mellon University 8-3.
The home game was played on Friday, April 1, at the College of Staten Island (no fooling).
The Violets (6-13, 0-4) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by
Brianna Roman and a single by
Bella Dunning.
However, the Tartans (12-8, 3-2) countered with three runs in the top of the third, the big blow being a two-run home run from Audrey Pederson.
Carnegie Mellon added another three runs before
Lauren Kong's RBI double brought NYU to within 6-3 in the fifth.
The Tartans capped the scoring with two more runs in the sixth.
Dunning and
Kalena Paredes each had a pair of hits for the Violets.
The two teams will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3:00pm back on Staten Island.
