Beggy's Four RBIs Lift Baseball Over CCNY

Violets win non-league matchup 10-4

Seven Violets recorded a hit and Richard Beggy drove in four runs to lead the New York University baseball team over The City College of New York, 10-4, on Wednesday evening at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn.

NYU improved to 13-1 on the season while the Beavers fell to 2-11. Tonight's game served as a mid-week tuneup before the Violets welcome Emory University to New York City for their second University Athletic Association (UAA) series this weekend.

Nate Pallotta picked up his first collegiate pitching victory, tossing four scoreless innings of relief while allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out three.

How It Happened
  • Connor Roggero led off the bottom of the first and was hit by a pitch. He then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another pitch to the backstop for a 1-0 NYU lead. Beggy later ripped a two-run double to left, giving the Violets a 3-0 edge after one.
  • CCNY scratched across a two-out tally in the top of the third as it became a 3-1 game after three full.
  • Grant Berman launched a no-doubt solo home run over the left-field wall, his third of the season, in the bottom of the fourth to pad the lead.
  • The Violets broke it open in the sixth as Beggy and Alex VanLandingham notched two-run doubles and Zane Baker got in on the action with an RBI triple down the right field line. NYU held a 9-1 advantage entering the seventh.
  • CCNY added a pair of runs on a Jonathan Rivera two-bagger in its half of the seventh, but the Beavers never came closer than six runs as NYU remained perfect in non-Association play.
For the Violets
  • Beggy, who's now up to 13 RBIs on the season, went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two doubles, a steal and a run.
  • VanLandingham finished 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and a stolen base.
  • Baker recorded a double and a triple (2-for-4) and drove in a run.
  • Connor Roggero stole three bases and scored twice in an effective outing as the leadoff hitter.
  • Joseph Augustine got the start on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up one run on two walks and a hit batter. He did not allow a hit and stuck out one.
  • Greg Rosen joined Pallotta as the only NYU pitcher with a scoreless outing, finishing the game with a one-hit ninth inning (two strikeouts).
