The New York University Softball Team completed its weekend series with Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, March 27, in Cleveland, OH.
After falling behind 4-0, the Violets (5-11, 0-3) rallied to pull within a run, but could not complete the comeback and fell to the Spartans (11-6, 3-0) by a score of 5-3.
Case got off to a good start in the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest, scoring a pair of runs in both the first and second innings.
However, NYU rallied in the third.
Samantha Burggraf led off the inning with a double and
Hannah Becker's single put runners on the corners. Two outs later,
Elisabeth Smith knocked Burgraff in with a single.
Kalena Paredes then drew a walk to load the bases and
Erin Scott followed with a double to plate two more runners.
But, that was all the runs NYU could muster as
Hannah Lee lined out to right field to end the inning.
Case added an insurance run in the fourth to end the scoring.
Maggie Swan (2-3) went the distance for NYU, striking out seven without issuing a walk.
Burggraf and Becker each recorded two hits for the Violets while Scott extended her hit streak to seven games.
NYU returns to action on Wednesday, March 30, for a doubleheader against Manhattanville College. First pitch in Purchase, NY, is set for 2:00pm.
