The New York University Men's Volleyball Team saw its season record drop to 8-8 with a straight-set loss to Stevens on Friday, March 11, in Hoboken, NJ.
The
#6-ranked Ducks (18-3) did not serve as welcoming hosts, defeating the visitors in three games (25-22, 25-21, 25-21).
NYU never led in the first set. After trailing by as many as six, the Violets pulled to within two, 24-22, on a kill by
Owen Wahlgren. However, a kill by Stevens' Jack Fyda ended the game.
The Violets took their first lead of the match early in the second set. But, consecutive points by the Ducks snapped an 8-8 tie and gave them a lead they never relinquished.
In the final set, Wahlgren's kills put NYU up 13-11. Then, with the score knotted at 14-14, Stevens embarked on a 7-2 run to create separation. Another Wahlgren kill pulled the Violets within 22-20, but the Ducks scored the next two points. After
James Haag recorded a kill for NYU, Koby Sherman responded with a match-clinching kill for Stevens.
SCANNING THE BOX SCORE:
- Wahlgren totaled 13 kills (one below his career best), did not commit an error, and finished with a .722 hitting percentage.

Gautham Dasari led NYU with 14 kills.

Ryan Whealen notched a match-high 41 assists for the Violets.
- The Violets out-hit the Ducks .298-.287.
The Violets return to action following Spring Break when they host SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, March 23, at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.
