The New York University Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams completed their third day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Friday, February 11, in Atlanta, GA. Following the day's events, Emory University's women's team leads with
1458 points and the Violet women trail in third with 951.5 points. The Violet men, meanwhile, are in fourth place with 762.5 points. Emory University leads the men with 1259.5 points.
Jessica Flynn shined for the Violets with a record-breaking swim in the women's 100 backstroke. She won the event, set the UAA record, broke the NYU record, and achieved the fastest time in the nation so far (53.95 seconds).
"Jessica's 100 back was clearly the highlight of the day," Head Swimming Coach
Trevor Miele said. "She attacked the race and brought it back super fast."
The third day of the championships also saw NYU's women compete in the 3-meter dive, with
Katherine Nardone advancing to the afternoon finals.
"It was awesome to compete in finals today in the 3-meter against some amazing divers," Nardone said. "We've been training extremely hard and it feels amazing to see it pay off!"
In the finals, Nardone landed a sixth-place score of
386.05 points.
"The women performed really well today," Head Diving Coach
Todd Kolean commented. "Katherine qualified eighth, made it into finals and then improved her qualifying score up to sixth. I cannot think of a more deserving diver. She is one of the hardest workers on the team and that hard work paid off today."
The swimming teams, meanwhile, had an impressive day of competition.
