Leslie Scores Twice in 3-0 Victory over Bears

The New York University men's soccer team, coming off its 0-0 draw with previously unbeaten, untied and #1-ranked University of Chicago on Friday, held its third straight opponent scoreless with a 3-0 victory over Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, October 30.

The Violets and Bears came into the Senior Day contest, hosted by NYU at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, tied for third place in the University Athletic Association (UAA).

Joe Leslie notched a pair of goals for the Violets. He opened the scoring early in the contest, dribbling down the left flank and putting a shot past Bear's goalkeeper Matt Martin. The unassisted goal came at the 17:11 mark.

The Violets doubled their lead at 37:44. Marcelo Freire sent a free kick toward the net and it was headed in by Nicholas Suter.

Leslie tallied his second goal at 57:43, taking a feed from Arkan Tahsildaroglu and putting it into the back of the net.

NYU keeper Luca Mancuso recorded one save for his seventh victory and fifth shutout of the season.

"Our team is coming into form at the right time," said Head Coach Kim Wyant. "I feel us pulsating with a lot of confidence."

Seniors Suter, Mancuso, Keegan Ledger, Alex Rovirosa-Illa, and Talal Said were honored in a ceremony prior to their final home game.

"Always losing our seniors is very painful. We spend a lot of time with them," Wyant explained. "They are all immensely experienced, all good players. But, this is how it works in college soccer."

The Violets have one more regular-season game to play when they face Brandeis University on Saturday, November 5, at 12:00pm in Waltham, MA.
