Men's Soccer Shuts Out Brandeis

Violets Win 3-0

The New York University's men's soccer team delivered a resounding 3-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) victory against Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, on Saturday, November 5.

The first half proved prolific for the Violets as they attempted nine shots to the Judges' four. However, almost all were blocked or saved by Brandeis keeper Aiden Guthro, including a shot from Alex Rovirosa-Illa at 37:22 that glanced off Guthro's hands.

Finally, at 43:40, Talal Said broke through with a goal assisted by Rovirosa-Illa. It was Said's first of the season.

The Violets continued their momentum with another goal just four minutes into the second half. Assisted by Arkan Tahsildaroglu, Nathan Bennett tucked in his fifth goal of the season to lift NYU to a 2-0 lead.

At 79:11, Joss Cohen attempted a shot on goal but Guthro denied him with a diving save.

However, five minutes later, Tahsildaroglu sent in the third goal for the Violets, improving his season record to eight.

Heading into the final 10 minutes of play, the game became more aggressive with a yellow card each for Nick Dunstan-Maiese of Brandeis and NYU's Said. Despite this, the Judges were never able to find the back of the net, improving the Violets to 9-4-3 on the season and 4-1-2 in the UAA.

The game concluded the regular season for the Violets, who finished third in the UAA.

On Monday, the NCAA Tournament field will be announced as the Violets seek an at-large bid. The University of Chicago earned the UAA's automatic bid by winning the regular-season title.
