Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Dominates at Kean

Violets snap three-game skid with 8-0 win

The New York University women's soccer team dominated from start to finish at Kean University in Union, NJ, on Tuesday night with an 8-0 victory, improving to 6-3-5 on the season.

The game was action-packed from the start with three shots from the Violets and two free kicks for Kean in the first 13 minutes.

Tate Jordan broke through with a goal at 13:37, assisted by Gabriella Funk, to get the night started for NYU.

Funk got in on the scoring herself in the 29th minute, finishing a pass from Kelli Keady to put the Violets up 2-0.

In the 37th, Julie Beedle sent in the Violets' third goal on a corner kick. She followed it up with another goal just one minute later for the first multi-goal game of her career as NYU continued to pull away.

Kean was unable to respond with shots of their own, giving Yukino Wakatsuki the opportunity to find the back of the net for her first collegiate goal on an assist from Hunter Hoelscher just before the break.

Moving into the second half, the Violets maintained control with eight shots in the first 15 minutes after the game resumed.

Kean kept NYU at bay for the first 20 minutes of the second, until Maddy Xiong continued the offensive outburst with a goal in the 75th with a Nikki Lee helper.

Xiong came back seven minutes later to score her second goal of the game, also recording the first brace of her career, as NYU led 7-0.

Wakatsuki finished the game off with the eighth goal at 84:12, collecting the first two goals of her career on the same night.

The Violets recorded 29 shots in total, 16 being on goal. NYU keepers Riley Felsher and Tyler Hawkins split the night in net, both recording a save as the Cougars attempted just two shots.

Women's soccer returns to University Athletic Association play for their next match against the University of Chicago on Friday, October 28, at their home field of Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
