#8 Violets Sweep Hunter on the Road

NYU improves to 16-4 with the win

Ten different Violets recorded a kill as New York University's eighth-ranked women's volleyball team swept Hunter College in Manhattan on Tuesday night.

NYU won the three-set affair by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 for the team's 16th win of the season and fourth straight.

Olivia Lewandowski notched the first three points of the match, on a kill and two aces, as the Violets scored the opening five to set the tone. Hunter kept pace though, trailing by just three (19-16) late in the set, until NYU produced a 6-1 run to close it out.

The Violets held Hunter to -0.77 hitting in the second while six different players had either an ace or a kill in the frame, cruising to 10-point victory for a 2-0 lead overall.

A Sarah Lattan kill made it 11-3 NYU in the third, but the Hawks battled back and cut the deficit to 13-10 soon after. Hunter later tied the set at 18, but NYU responded with six consecutive points to stop the rally and secure the sweep.

Itxaso Ezcurra Taiganides notched a career- and team-high seven kills along with three digs and a career-high two aces.

Lattan tied her career high with six kills on .857 hitting, adding three total blocks, while Ella Weider had six kills of her own.

Haley Holz totaled five kills, Luna Suzuki had four and Lewandowski, Eveliena Pasmooij and Leela Anvekar contributed three apiece.

Dominique Drust dished out a team-high 20 assists and Lindsey Hirano posted a match-high 17 digs.

The Violets return to University Athletic Association (UAA) play for their next outing, taking on #6 Emory University to open UAA Round Robin #3 on Sunday, October 16, in Rochester, NY.
