The New York University Women's Volleyball Team has completed a three-match sweep at this weekend's University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 competition. After defeating nationally-ranked opponents University of Chicago (#13) and Washington University in St. Louis (#19) on Saturday, the Violets continued their winning ways with a 3-0 victory over the University of Rochester on Sunday, September 19, in Chicago, IL.
It was no contest from beginning to end as NYU raised its 2021 record to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in UAA competition with the 25-19, 25-11, 25-5 sweep of the Yellowjackets (5-6, 0-3).
"We only trailed early in the first set, and after quick adjustments and settling in we stayed on the offensive the rest of the way," said Head Coach
Andrew Brown. "This weekend we had the opportunity to display our 'NYU Brand' of volleyball through our hard-fought matches. Our core values were on display all weekend and the team earned every result. This will continue to drive our culture and work ethic as we continue to build off of this weekend."
Haley Holz (Palatine, IL/Palatine) continues to dominate at the net for NYU. She led the way with 14 kills while also adding three blocks.
Abby Ausmus (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day School) had a team-high four blocks, while
Ella Spaethling (Larkspur, CA/Redwood) added nine kills.
Dominique Drust (Coto de Caza, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) (21) and
Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) (11) each had double-digit assists for NYU.
"This weekend, our team made a statement about our brand of volleyball," Dao said. "All around, we embraced the tough competition until the very end and we will continue to set our minds on proving ourselves on a national level."
Lindsey Hirano (South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena) recorded a match-high 18 digs.
"After having such a successful day yesterday, our team knew that we wanted to come out strong again," Hirano explained. "We fought through any exhaustion or soreness to put Rochester away. I was proud of our team for continuing to earn every point. Everyone played with a lot of grit and confidence."
The Violets return to action this Wednesday, September 22, when they host Hunter College at 7:00pm at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility in Brooklyn, NY.
