The No. 25 New York University women's volleyball team fell to No. 12 Juniata College (25-17, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19) in four sets on Saturday, September 5, in Newport News, VA.

NYU trailed throughout the opening set, with Juniata building an early 8-3 advantage. The Violets cut the deficit to two at 10-8 and later pulled within 20-17, but the Eagles closed strong to take the set.

Juniata jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the second set, but NYU steadily chipped away at the deficit, pulling within 16-13. The Violets continued to fight, closing the gap to 23-19, but the Eagles closed out the set.

The Violets took control in the third set, building an 8-3 lead before extending it to 11-6. Juniata battled back to even the score at 17-17, and the two teams traded points before NYU pulled ahead late to take its first set of the match.

The fourth set remained close with the Violets tying the score at 11-11. The Eagles responded with a 6-1 run to take a 17-12 lead, and NYU was unable to close the gap as Juniata went on to win the set and the match.

Grace Nelson led the way for the Violets with 11 kills. Lily Leung notched nine digs while Alden Roberts and Kate Scherlacher tallied 17 assists apiece.

Leung and Coco Barton were both named to the Captains Classic All-Tournament Team.

"Great fights this weekend, and we know we are a top team," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "We will continue to work at the little things before next weekend's match-ups."

The Violets take the court next at the John A. Paulson Center, hosting the NYU Season-Opening Invitational on September 11 and 12. NYU's first match is on Friday, September 11, at 6:45 PM against Montclair State University.
