The New York University Men's and Women's Swimming Teams were defeated by Johns Hopkins University at a dual meet on Saturday, November 20, in Baltimore, MD.
The NYU men's team was bested 198-64 and the women lost 151.5-110.5.
The women started off well with a few early victories.
Ashley Brodnick (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road) secured the first victory for the Violets by winning the 1,000 freestyle (10:38.70). Shortly thereafter,
Caitlin Marshall (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) raced to first in the 200 butterfly (2:06.07). Later, the women won three more events.
Nika Kouznetsova (Hamilton, NJ/Mercer County Health Science) won the 100 freestyle (54.80),
Emily Ma (Andover, MA/Andover) was victorious in the 200 backstroke (2:06.62), and
Julianna Sosnowski (San Jose, CA/Leland) took home the gold in the 200 IM (2:10.99).
"We had some tough training this week," Marshall commented, "I'm proud of how we showed up and performed this weekend!"
On the men's side, the Violets faced fierce competition as the Blue Jays won every event.
Jaeden-Hans Yburan (Livingston, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) was NYU's top finisher, placing second in the 100 backstroke (52.26) and third in the 200 backstroke (1:56.65).
Hans-Yburan teamed with Jake Haines,
Lawrence Mao (Yorba Linda, CA/Sunny Hills) and
Alec Reimon (Rutherford, NJ/Bergen County Academies) to finish third in the 400 Medley Relay (3:31.04).
Individually, Reimon placed third in the 50 freestyle (21.72) and swam the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay (21.25), the fastest individual time within his relay. He and his teammates
Nathaniel Yeoh (Hong Kong/German Swiss International School), Mao and
John Piccinic (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) posted a third-place finish (1:27.04).
"While the meet didn't go our way, the team has been working incredibly hard," Piccinic remarked. "We came to race and the team showed great energy."
The NYU Swimming and Diving Teams will be back in action at the Bruno Invite on December 3-5 hosted by Brown University in Providence, RI.
