The New York University women's volleyball team was defeated by Ithaca College in four games on Saturday, September 28, in Ithaca, NY.
The Violets (13-4) posted games scores of 25-23, 23-25, 23-25 and 20-25 in their loss to the Bombers (11-5).
It was a big day for Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) and Veronica Johnson (Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica), the former recording a team-high 22 assists as well as 10 digs, while the latter led the Violets with 17 digs and had 10 assists. Meanwhile, Haley Holz (Palatine, IL /Palatine) was top of the team in kills and aces at 14 and three each.
NYU got off to a solid start after narrowly edging out Ithaca in a back-and-forth opening set. The Violets were on the verge of winning the second set after taking a late 23-22 lead, but the Bombers rallied to score three straight points and take the set. After falling to an early 0-3 hole in the third set, NYU battled back to tie things up, only to come up just short of the victory. Trying to push a fifth set, the Violets came out hard in the fourth, quickly going up 5-1. Things started swinging back into the Bombers favor, however, as they rallied back from multiple deficits en route to a late lead which they never relinquished.
The Violets will be back out on the court on Thursday, October 3, when they face Hunter College at 6:00 pm in New York, NY.
