The New York University women's volleyball team defeated Hunter College in three games on Thursday, October 3, in New York, NY.

The Violets (14-4) posted game scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-23 en route to the victory over the host Hawks (7-10). 

Abby Ausmus (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day School) led all players on the court in kills with 12 and Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) led the Violets in assist with 24. Meanwhile, Jacqueline Kupeli (Danville, CA/Monte Vista) was the Violets' leader in digs with 18.

"Tonight was a good battle from both sides," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "Hunter improved as the match went on, and that really pushed our team to perform at a high level."

Early on in the first set things seemed to be relatively even, but just as the Hawks scored their 12th point to pull within five of the Violets, NYU rattled off eight points to go up 1-0. In the second set, the Violets once again went on a massive tear taking an early 8-2 lead and never looked back.

Trying to push a fourth set, the Hawks came out hard in the third, quickly going up 9-6. Things started swinging back into the Violets favor, however, as they rallied back from multiple deficits en route to a late victory. 

"We made it really hard for our opponent to earn a point," added Brown. "We look forward to building off of this win as we prepare for conference play this weekend."

The Violets return to action this Sunday, October 6, when they travel south for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin. NYU will face Rochester at 10 a.m. and Emory at 2 p.m. at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
