Women's Volleyball Sweeps Lehman

Violets Post Road Victory

The New York University women's volleyball team defeated Lehman College in three games on Thursday, September 26, in the Bronx, NY.

The Violets (13-3) posted games scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-10 en route to the victory over the Lightening (2-12). The two teams hadn't met since the 1994-95 season.

Amy Zhang (Cary, NC/Green Hope) and Julia Passante (Norwood, NJ/Northern Valley Regional at Old Tappan) led all players on the court in kills with nine and eight, respectively. In assists, Veronica Johnson (Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica) recorded a match-high 10 for the Violets, followed closely by Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) with eight. Meanwhile, Maddie DeJong (Houston, TX/Second Baptist School) was the Violets' leader in digs with five.

Early on in the first set things seemed to be relatively even, but just as the Lightening scored their 11th point to pull within two of the Violets, NYU rattled off 12 unanswered points to go up 1-0. In the second set, with NYU trailing 7-8, the Violets once again went on a massive tear and outscored the opposition 18-1 down the stretch. Despite Lehman taking an early 3-1 lead in the third set, the Violets kept the pressure on and closed out the final set in dominant fashion.

The Violets return to action this Saturday, September 28, when they travel upstate to face Ithaca College at 6:00pm in Ithaca, NY.
