Women's Soccer Posts 4-1 Win

Violets Defeat Centenary at Gaelic Park

The New York University women's soccer team posted a 4-1 victory over visiting Centenary University on Saturday, September 21, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

Lila Keltz (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) found the back of the net twice as #15 (United Soccer Coaches) NYU raised its 2019 record to 5-2.

NYU opened the scoring at 14:20 on a goal from Isabelle Turner (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest) assisted by Gabriella Funk (Freemont, CA/Irvington). Less than eight minutes later, Funk doubled the Violets' lead after receiving a pass from Ellie Marks (Seattle, WA/University Prep) and converting at 22:00.

The Violets took a 3-0 lead when Keltz scored the first of her two goals from close range at 27:48.

The Cyclones (0-6-1) scored their only goal late in the first half, a tally by Stephanie Williams at 42:04, to make it 3-1.

Keltz scored again on another assist from Marks as the clock was winding down (75:08).

Meghan Marhan (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) made three saves in recording the victory in net for the Violets.

NYU took 20 shots on goal, with Centenary's Chelsea Estacio forced to make 16 saves. 

The Violets will be right back on the field this Wednesday, September 25, when they host Farmingdale State College at 7:00pm at Gaelic Park.
