The New York University men's soccer team won its second straight game, defeating visiting Hunter College 3-0 on Saturday, September 21, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY..
Owen Smith (Laguna Beach, CA/St. Margaret's Episcopal School) gave NYU (2-4-1) an early lead just 6:37 into the contest. His shot deflected into the left corner of the net off of Hawks' goalkeeper Antony Simos.
The next score of the game came early in the second half as
Oliver Kleban (Denver, CO/Blind Brook) scored unassisted at 48:56.
Then, at 77:25,
Victor Kang (Seoul, South Korea/Kent School (Kent, CT)) tallied an unassisted goal to cap the scoring.
Nick Vafiadis (Englewood, NJ/Bergen Catholic) (1 save) and
Luca Mancuso (Miami, FL/Montverde Academy) (2 saves) shared the shutout for NYU.
"It was a solid performance by our players, and now we've done that a few games in a row," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant.
The Violets out-shot the Hawks (1-5-1) 13-6 overall (8-3 on goal) and Simos finished with five saves.
"We were very strong in the front third and converted on several of our chances," Wyant added.
The Violets return to action when they host Stevens on Saturday, September 28, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm.
