The New York University women's soccer team scored six second-half goals en route to a 10-1 victory over visiting St. Joseph's College - Long Island on Sunday, September 15, in the Violets' home opener at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
Seven different Violets found the back of the net as NYU raised its 2019 record to 4-1.
A trio of NYU players, Isabelle Turner (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest), Gabriella Funk (Freemont, CA/Irvington) and Hadley Bushala (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) each scored twice.
The Violets opened the scoring on Turner's goal at the 7:20 mark. She was assisted by Alex Benedict (Avon, CT/Avon).
The Golden Eagles (2-2-1) tied the score on Savannah McMaster's unassisted tally at 22:43.
However, it was all NYU from that point on as Funk gave the hosts the lead for good at 31:56. Her goal was followed by a tally by Tori Bianco (Omaha, NE/Elkhorn South) at 41:53 to give NYU a 3-1 halftime lead.
A six-goal barrage followed in the final 45 minutes.
Meghan Marhan (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) was forced to make only one save in net for the Violets.
"It was good to be back at home," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "Obviously a solid performance and a good chance to see a lot of our players."
The Violets will be right back on the field this Wednesday, September 18, when they host the University of Scranton at 7:00pm.
