Baseball Team Wins Slugfest

Violets Defeat Stevens 14-10 on Thursday

The New York University baseball team defeated the Stevens Institute of Technology 14-10 on Thursday, May 2, in Hoboken, NJ.

The Violets (25-11) scored five runs in the first inning and four in the second to take a large early lead.

They added another run in the third, but Stevens (16-19) plated five in the bottom of the frame to keep the game from being a runaway.

After NYU scored again in the top of the fourth, the Ducks responded with two more in the bottom following a 45-minute rain delay to cut the deficit to 11-7.

But, the Violets rallied for three more runs in the top of the fifth to complete their scoring.

The Ducks did score three more times before the game was stopped after seven innings because of a local curfew.

The Violets managed 12 hits in the contest and drew eight walks. Eight of NYU's nine batters had at least one hit. Jack Walter, Colman Hendershot and Connor Halpern each had two hits. Walter, Grant Berman and Austin Stenstedt belted home runs, with Halpern knocking in a team-high four runs.

Five pitchers toed the slab for NYU, with Aaron Ackerman picking up the victory with two innings of relief.

The Violets return to the field on Friday afternoon when they face New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
