The New York University baseball team defeated host Baruch College 16-1 on Tuesday evening, April 30, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
With the win, NYU improved to 24-11 on the season, while the Bearcats' record now stands at 13-17.
Neither team scored in the first inning, but the Violets broke the scoreless tie with an eight-run second and never looked back en route to the dominating performance over the CUNYAC (City University of New York Athletic Conference) regular-season champions.
Zach Cohen pitched two scoreless innings for NYU and
JP Maniscalco followed with two scoreless of his own to earn his first career victory out of the bullpen.
Christopher Cheadle (three innings) and
Will Jauss (one inning) also came out of the bullpen and kept the Bearcats off the scoreboard.
Offensively,
Cooper Halpern (four hits),
Colman Hendershot (three hits) and
Ryan McLaughlin (three hits) led the way, combining for 10 of the Violets' 15 hits on Tuesday. McLaughlin knocked in four runs, while Halpern and
Grant Berman each collected three RBIs.
The Violets return to the field on Thursday, May 2, when they travel to Hoboken, NJ, to take on Stevens Institute of Technology. First pitch is slated for 7pm.
