Berman, Ladd Lift NYU to 20th Win

Grant Berman Belts First-Career Home Run as Violets Win 10-1

Grant Berman's first-career home run and five scoreless innings from Ford Ladd lifted the New York University baseball team to their 20th victory of the season, a 10-1 win over Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, April 23, at Weequahic Park in Newark, NJ.

The Violets' record now stands at 20-10, while the Scarlet Raiders dropped to 12-16 on the season.

Berman's three-run blast came in the third inning with the Violets leading 2-0. Ladd, NYU's starting pitcher, cruised from there giving up just two hits and a walk over five innings, while striking out four en route to his seventh mound victory of the season.

Colman Hendershot also homered for the Violets, hitting his eighth long ball of the season and 21st of his career in the fifth inning.

Jack Elias and Zane Baker each recorded three of NYU's 15 hits on the day, while Baker joined his freshmen classmate Berman driving in a team-best three runs.

Will Jauss didn't allow a hit or walk in a scoress ninth inning of relief for the Violets.

NYU returns to action on Friday when it begins its final four-game University Athletic Association (UAA) series of the season against Emory University. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
