The New York University men's volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end as it was defeated in five sets by #2-ranked Springfield College at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility on Saturday, March 9.
NYU is now 8-7 this season, while the second-ranked Pride improved to 18-2.
NYU dropped the first two sets to Springfield by scores of 25-16 and 25-15, respectively, but rebounded to win the third and fourth sets 25-19 and 25-23 to take the match to a fifth set.
In the decisive set, the Violets and Pride went blow-for-blow. NYU trailed 12-11, but a kill by
Tyler Flood leveled the score. Springfield responded with two straight points, giving them match point at 14-12. But, a pair of Springfield errors knotted the game again and led to a Pride timeout. Springfield utilized the break to perfection by capturing the next two points as the Violets were handed another fifth-set loss, their fifth of the season.
Evan Lindsey led the Violets in kills and digs with 13 and 10, respectively.
Neil Ferraro led the team in blocks with five.
Matin Bikdeli posted a match-high 42 assists, while
Alex Li contributed 10 kills, nine digs and two service aces.
The Violets are scheduled to return to the court on Wednesday, March 13, when they travel uptown to take on Hunter College at 6:30pm.
