Softball Plays Two Against TCNJ

Violets Swept by Lions

The New York University softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to The College of New Jersey on Sunday, March 17, in Lakewood, FL.

The Violets (2-2) dropped the first game 8-4 and the second game 4-0 to the Lions (6-4).

NYU scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener on Jacqueline Finn's three-run home run. But, TCNJ used a four-run third to take a lead it never relinquished.

The Violets' only other run came in the bottom of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Ashley Mains

Karissa Zubulake went the first five innings for NYU, allowing all seven runs. Cassi Parulis pitched the final two innings and gave up the final run.

In the second game, the Violets' bats were silenced as the squad only managed four hits, two by leadoff hitter Diana King. Scarlett Murphy suffered the loss in five innings of work, while Maggie Swan pitched one inning of scoreless relief.

Eliza Sweet threw the complete-game shutout for TCNJ.

"We had our opportunities today, but we didn't capitalize on them," said NYU Head Coach Now-Allah James. "They're a good team and you can't let those opportunities go by."

The Violets will play a split doubleheader on Monday, March 18. NYU faces Oswego State at 11:00am and Messiah College at 1:15pm. Both games are scheduled to be played in Plant City, FL.
