The New York University baseball team suffered its first setback of the 2019 season, falling 8-2 to Alfred State University on Friday, March 15, at the New York Yankees Minor League Spring Training Complex in Tampa, FL.
NYU slipped to 5-1 on the season, while the Pioneers evened their record at 6-6.
The Violets made three errors in Friday's loss and ASU was able to take advantage, turning the miscues into four unearned runs.
Alfred State scored three runs in both the second and third innings and the Violets were never able to claw back.
ASU starter Andrew Santobuono pitched seven innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out eight NYU hitters.
Offensively, Dan Woodward led the way for the Pioneers, collecting three hits and knocking in five runs.
Colman Hendershot and
Coltrane Tait each had a pair of hits for the Violets.
NYU and Alfred State will meet again on Saturday, March 16, at the same location of Friday's contest. The first pitch is once again slated for 4pm.
