The New York University baseball team got back in the win column on Saturday, March 16, defeating Alfred State University 15-3 at the New York Yankees Spring Training Minor League Complex in Tampa, FL.
NYU (6-1) was defeated by Alfred State (6-7) 8-2 on Friday, but got a solid pitching performance from starter
Gabriel Golob and strong offensive performances from the top three hitters in its order -
Ryan McLaughlin,
Jack Walter and
Colman Hendershot - to get revenge from the Pioneers in dominating fashion on Saturday.
Golob tossed 5.0 innings and didn't allow an earned run to improve to 2-0 on the mound this season.
McLaughlin, Walter and Hendershot combined to go 10-for-14 at the plate with 10 RBI and eight runs scored to help lead the Violets to the win. McLaughlin was 4-for-4 on the day, while Hendershot knocked in a team-high four runs and hit his first home run of the season.
Cooper Halpern also had a two-hit day for an NYU ballclub that recorded a season-high 16 hits in the win.
Oakley Albinson relieved Golob and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, while striking out a pair of Pioneers.
Connor Pingitore and Mike Gibson each tallied one hit and one RBI for Alfred State.
NYU returns to the diamond on Sunday, March 17, when it takes on SUNY New Paltz in Auburndale, FL. First pitch against the Hawks is slated for 5:15pm.
