The New York University men's volleyball team defeated host Baruch College in five sets on Tuesday, February 5, at the ARC Arena in Manhattan.
NYU (3-4) defeated the Bearcats (3-5) 25-19, 25-19, 16-25, 25-27, 15-9 to earn its second-straight win and third victory in its last four matches.
"That was a good win for our team," said NYU Head Coach
Jose Pina. "It was closer than we would've liked, but we pulled it out and showed some true grit as a team."
The Violets were led by junior captain
Evan Lindley who recorded a match-best 17 kills to go along with 10 digs and a match-high six service aces.
Ryan Whealen also had an impressive match for the visitors, dishing out 50 assists.
NYU tallied 57 kills in the match to just 40 for the Bearcats, but Baruch was still able to keep the match tight as they forced the Violets to commit 29 attack errors. NYU attacked at a .197 clip, while Baruch hit .191.
The teams recorded similar block tallies in the match, as the Bearcats held a slight 13-12 advantage.
Tuesday's five-set victory was the first of the season for NYU, which is now 1-3 when the match goes the distance.
"We played most of our squad tonight," added Pina. "It was good to get most of our players into a live match."
The Violets return to the court when they open up United Volleyball Conference play on Friday evening against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. First serve against the Engineers is slated for 7pm at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.
