The New York University men's basketball team defeated host Rosemont College 88-73 on Sunday, December 1, in Rosemont, PA.
The Violets who last played on November 24 in an 86-82 overtime win over Western New England University, improved their record to 4-3 while the Ravens fell to 1-7.
The game-changing portion of Sunday's contest came midway the first half. Rosemont led 16-11 with 13 minutes remaining. However, over the next six-and-a-half minutes, the Violets embarked on a 19-0 run and never trailed again.
NYU led 42-31 at halftime and opened up its biggest lead of the game, 56-41, on
Ethan Feldman's (New York, NY/The Salisbury School) layup with 13:47 remaining in the contest.
The Ravens managed to pull within four points on several occasions. But, after having crept within 75-71 with 4:44 left, the Violets scored the next 11 points to thwart Rosemont's comeback attempt.
"Any road win is a good one," said Head Coach
Dagan Nelson. "We played to our strengths and scored 48 points in the paint, which was a huge emphasis for us."
Cade Hoppe (El Dorado Hills, CA/Oak Ridge) led the way for NYU, posting career highs of 28 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks.
"Without a doubt, Cade played his best game in an NYU uniform," Nelson explained.
Feldman finished with 20 points while three other Violets (
Jimmy Martinelli (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) - 13, Jadan Narwal - career-high 11,
Nick Macarchuk (Alamo, CA/St. Thomas Moore Prep) - 10) also scored in double figures.
Martinelli also contributed nine rebounds.
"We are excited to keep getting better one day at a time," Nelson concluded.
The Violets return to action on Wednesday, December 4, when they travel to Riverdale, NY, for a matchup against the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
