Women's Soccer Blanks William Paterson

The Violets shutout the Red Hawks on Tuesday

The New York University women's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over William Paterson University on Tuesday, October 8, in Wayne, NJ.

Isabelle Turner (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest) found the back of the net twice as #18 (United Soccer Coaches) NYU raised its 2019 record to 9-2.

Turner opened up the scoring for the Violets in the third minute of play. Julia Raith (Rutherford, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) threw the ball into play and Isabella De Almagro tapped it into an open lane, giving Turner the opportunity to go one-on-one with WPU goalkeeper Erin Hickey.

In the first 45 minutes, WPU goalkeeper saved two of the three shots she faced.

Tuner tabbed her second goal of the night in the 49th minute of play off of a feed from Sam March (Glastonbury, CT/Kingswood Oxford School) on the right side.

Gabrielle Funk closed out the scoring for the Violets in the 53rd minute of action with a long shot from 23 yards out. Funk's goal was assisted by Turner. NYU out-shot WPU 20-8 and 10-7 in shots on goal.

"We are happy to tally another shutout this season," said Head Coach Michelle Canning. "At the half we talked about being more patient and composed in front of the goal so it was good to see the team finish two more goals in the second."

NYU goalkeeper Meghan Marhan tallied seven saves in the shutout.

The Violets will be back in University Athletic Association (UAA) action this Saturday, October 12, when they travel to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. That matchup is scheduled for 11 am.
