The New York University women's soccer team shutout the College of Staten Island 5-0 on Saturday, October 26, on Staten Island, NY.
The Violets (10-5) and Dolphins (6-7-1 ) were scoreless after the first half.
"We had possession of the ball the majority of the game," said Head Coach
Michele Canning. "We created some good chances in the first half that we didn't finish."
The scoreless deadlock was broken when
Ellie Marks (Seattle, WA/University Prep) converted a penalty kick at the 51:57 mark.
The Violets doubled their lead less than two minutes later when Marks sent a cross to
Spritle Hirano (Seattle, WA/West Seattle), who converted it into a score.
Not long after that, Marks tickled the twines on an assist from
Gabriella Funk (Freemont, CA/Irvington) at 55:51.
The scoring barrage continued for NYU as
Cora Creighton (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich Academy) (62:42) and
Jade Keane (Morgan Hill, CA/Saint Francis) (66:01) completed the scoring. Crieghton was assisted by
Sydney Jo Presnell (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) and
Nalani Ogawa (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island), while Keane received a cross by
Hadley Bushala (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township).
"We came out well in the second half," Canning said. "We continued to work hard and we got the results we were looking for."
This was the last non-conference game of the season for the Violets
The Violets return to University Athletic Association (UAA) action next weekend when they face the University of Rochester on Friday, November 1, at 5:00pm in Rochester, NY, and Emory University on Sunday, November 3, at 11:00am in Atlanta, GA.
