The New York University women's soccer team blanked the University of Rochester 1-0 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) matchup on Friday, November 1, in Rochester, NY.
The Violets and Yellowjackets were locked 0-0 through the first 56 minutes of play, but NYU's
Hadley Bushala (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) netted the game's only goal when she booted a kick past Rochester goalkeeper Emma Schechter following touches by
Isabelle Turner (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest) and
Julia Raith (Rutherford, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy).
Raith began the game-winning attack by passing the ball to Turner who ran down the flank and brought the ball in deep. She then sent it across to Bushala who deposited it into the back of the net.
"We are excited to get the win on the road," said Head Coach
Michele Canning. "The players competed hard in a really physical match."
NYU goalkeeper
Meghan Marhan saved six shots in recording the shutout victory.
The Violets are now 11-5 overall and 2-3 in the UAA, while the Yellowjackets fell to 8-5-2, 0-4-1.
"We had some bumps in the road with our travel situation due to the weather," added Canning. "I thought we did a great job of focusing and rallying to get the win."
NYU returns to UAA action this Sunday, November 3, when they face Emory University at 11:00am in Atlanta, GA.
