Women's Soccer Defeated by Chicago

#21 Violets Fall to #13 Maroons 1-0

The New York University women's soccer team was defeated by the University of Chicago 1-0 on Sunday, October 20, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

The Violets (9-5, 1-3), ranked #21 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, could not overcome their University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent, the #13 Maroons (10-1-2, 2-0-1), who tallied the game's only goal in the first half.

Each team had two shots on goal in the opening half, but it was only Chicago's Claudia Hodgetts who was able to make it count. The Maroons' Clare Suter took a corner kick and Hodgetts used her head to connect with the launched projectile and angle it into the net past Violet goalkeeper Meghan Marhan (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) at the 32:43 mark.

NYU pushed the attack throughout the second half, putting three more shots on goal, but was unable to the produce the equalizer.

The Violets did out-shoot the Maroons 8-7 overall.

Marhan finished with four saves, while the Maroons' Miranda Malone recorded five.

The Violets also celebrated Senior Day on Sunday, as NYU's eight seniors were honored: Alex Benedict (Avon, CT/Avon), Sophia Danielsen (Coral Springs, FL/Pine Crest School), Isabella De Almagro (Pembroke Pines, FL/American Heritage), Callie Delaney (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Ponte Vedra), Maddie Howard (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West), Jade Keane (Morgan Hill, CA/Saint Francis), Ashlyn Krygowski (Dunstable, MA/Worcester Academy), and Isabelle Turner (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pine Crest).

The Violets will play their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, October 26, when they travel to the College of Staten Island for a 12:00pm contest.
