The New York University women's volleyball team won two non-conference matches on Saturday, October 12, in Farmingdale, NY. The Violets earned victories over host Farmingdale State College in the first match (24-26, 25-11, 25-9, 25-14 ) and Misericordia College (25-18, 25-15, 25-13) in the final match of the afternoon.
The Violets got off to a slow start in the opener against Farmingdale, dropping the first set before rallying to take the final three.
"We got off to a little bit of a slow start today," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "After that everyone was contributing with tons of positive energy."
Maddie DeJong (Houston, TX/Second Baptist School) led NYU with a team-high 16 kills in the opener. A pair of Violets finished with double-digit digs: Jacqueline Kupeli (17) and Amy Zhang (Cary, NC/Green Hope) (12).
In the matchup with Misercordia, the squads were evenly matched through the first game, with NYU earning the 25-18 win. In game two, however, the Violets jumped out to an 18-12 lead and the Cougars never got closer than four the rest of the way
Haley Holz (Palatine, IL /Palatine) led NYU with a team-high 11 kills while Kupeli tallied 18 digs.
"We are looking to build off this winning streak and carry it into next week," Brown added.
The Violets will return to action on Tuesday when they host Baruch at 7 pm. The squad will honor it's three seniors before the match.
