The New York University men's volleyball team defeated United Volleyball Conference (UVC) foe Nazareth College on Friday, March 30, at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.
The Violets (14-7, 4-4 UVC) topped the Golden Flyers (17-11, 4-4) in four sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24).
The first set was close, featuring seven lead changes and an astonishing 14 ties. But, NYU was able to pull ahead at the end and took a one-set lead. The Violets looked to make it a two-set lead and jumped to an 8-2 advantage, but Nazareth fought back to win the set by three, 25-22.
Although the Violets faced a 21-20 deficit in the third set, they were able to pull out a 25-22 victory. In the fourth, they faced an early 9-3 deficit and still trailed 24-22, but scored the final four points to close out the frame and even their UVC record at 4-4.
Neil Ferraro and
Alex Li led the way for NYU as Ferraro finished with 13 kills and no errors, while Li struck a match-high 21 kills.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Li also added seven digs, four service aces and three assists.
- Ferraro's 13 kills came on 17 attacks and the sophomore finished the match with a .765 hitting percentage. The sophomore also tallied six blocks, including four solo.

Matin Bikdeli registered 39 assists, seven kills on nine attacks, and four digs.
The Violets return to action tomorrow, Saturday, March 31, when they close out UVC regular-season play against host St. John Fisher beginning at 2:00 PM.
