The New York University men's volleyball team defeated host Arcadia University in straight sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-21) on Tuesday, February 20, in Glenside, PA.
NYU, ranked #9 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Divison III poll, improved to 7-4 this season, while the Knights are now 9-8.
The opening set saw several lead changes early until NYU scored four straight to turn an 8-5 deficit into a 9-8 lead. The Violets never trailed again in the set, but the Knights tied it on five different occasions. The Violets broke the set open with three-straight points and turned a 19-18 lead into a comfortable 22-18 margin. NYU won the set 25-22 on a kill from
Ethan Talkov and took a 1-0 advantage into the second set.
Arcadia scored the first two points of the second set, but NYU answered with 12 straight and never looked back. The Violets led by as many as 12 on several occasions and pulled ahead 2-0 in the match on another set-clinching kill from Talkov.
The squads traded the first six points of the third set, but the Violets scored five straight to go ahead 8-3. NYU was able to increase its lead to as many six at one point, but a late run from the Knights made the margin just two, 19-17. The Violets were able to refocus and took the third set 25-21 on a
Jaime Rivera kill to win the match 3-0 and a put an end to their two-match losing skid.
